How is your lovely home garden going? Today I’d like to offer a tip on open-air composting. Open-air composting is an easy, eco-friendly way to recycle kitchen and garden waste, provided it’s set up correctly. Position the compost area a short distance from your home and neighbors to avoid unwanted smells. Build the pile on a pallet covered with a fine wire base layer, or other method of raised base such as tree branches or unwanted timber. This allows air to flow from below, keeping the compost lightly moist rather than soggy. Turn it regularly to add oxygen, except during winter, when turning can slow the process because it cools the interior. For best results, balance nitrogen-rich “greens” like kitchen scraps with carbon-rich “browns” such as dry leaves or unbleached cardboard to reduce odors and discourage pests. If you have space, you can start a second and third composting pile next to the first while it is completing, thereby keeping an ongoing cycle of ready compost. Before starting, check any local composting guidelines or laws that may apply. With proper care, open-air composting naturally transforms everyday waste into rich, garden-ready soil.

Let’s now have a laugh together with the joke of the day. It’s called, “House on Wheels.”

Harold, a paramedic, was in the back of the ambulance tending to a patient when he noticed the vehicle slowing to a crawl. He asked the driver what was going on.

“There’s a giant semi-truck ahead of us hauling a whole house. Isn’t it annoying when people are just too lazy to pack?”

?!

And now we have a heartline from Lillian in the United States
