A new University of Surrey [UK]-led report warns that England’s looming five-billion-liter-per-day water shortfall cannot be solved by infrastructure alone, arguing that real-time feedback and behavior-focused interventions are essential because most household water use—especially showering, toilet flushing, and leak reporting— is driven by automatic habits rather than conscious decisions. Researchers say effective tools include smart shower displays that show water use as it happens, timers or color-changing lights that signal when a shower is running long, and leak-detection alerts pushed directly to phones, all of which intervene at the moment the behavior occurs rather than relying on people to remember to act differently (SciTech Daily)

In part 1 of 2 of Dr. David Klee’s near-death experiences, American musician and professor David shares how he died four times, spent decades hiding his experiences, and discovered that suffering can lead to profound purpose.
David was born nearly two months premature in the 1950s, leaving him extremely thin, with physical differences that made him a target for severe bullying throughout his childhood and adolescence. By his mid-20s, David was a full-time touring musician based in Macon, Georgia, working for country artist Razzy Bailey. In 1978, when his wisdom teeth came in late, he scheduled an appointment for their removal, unaware of what was about to unfold.
And when I went in to see him, that’s when I discovered he was just going to give me a local anesthetic. He was not going to put me to sleep. So, I started getting a little paranoid and nervous, but I agreed. And so, he gave me the shots, and he started drilling. And then he realized really quick that my teeth, the roots, had a hook on them like this. And he could not pull the teeth out. He was about pulling my jaw off as he was trying to pull my teeth out. So then he got the wild idea. I guess they make them. He got out a chisel and a hammer. I guess it’s a dentist chisel and a hammer. I don’t know. Then he told me to put my arms and hands under my chin to hold it while he pounded on the wisdom teeth to break them in half. Well, by then, the pain was totally unbearable.
And then all of a sudden, the next thing I knew, I was up on the ceiling, and for a split second, it was just like somebody turned on a switch, and all of a sudden, I was up there, and I was looking around, and I realized I was up near the ceiling. But if I look down, I could see the dentist, and I could see his assistant. The assistant was grabbing my face and shaking it and slapping me, while the dentist was practically doing the same thing. And they both had a very panicked look about them. And at first, when I saw this, I wasn’t really concerned with anything I was seeing. And I really didn’t even know who that was in the chair. So I was just like, “OK.” So I was just sort of enjoying the moment, not really sure of what I’m seeing. And then I noticed, I seemed to have vision 360 degrees. And then I noticed I could see the receptionist in an outside room down the hallway. And she was getting really nervous, and she was kind of standing up and sitting down in her chair, looking at the dental office where they were working on me, like she didn’t know what was going on. And then I was able to also see my wife in the waiting room and bless her heart, she had been reading a magazine and then she looked up. And then she put the magazine down. Later, I found out she didn’t know what to do, whether she should get up and run into the room I was in or what. She didn’t know.
So all this is transpiring while I’m just sort of hanging here, looking at everything, and again, and then I finally started to realize maybe that’s me down there. Maybe that is me, and I wasn’t concerned. I wasn’t concerned at all. I was just like, what, why, why is all this happening? But I was just very content and enjoying the moment. And then, just like somebody took a light switch and flicked it, I was back in my body just like that. And as soon as I got back in my body, instantly, I had all that incredible pain and agony.
After David returned to his body, the dentist stopped working and later told David’s wife they could not find a pulse for several minutes. For weeks, David couldn’t remember the experience clearly, but eventually began having flashes of vision that his wife confirmed matched exactly what had happened that day. It wouldn’t be the last time his heart stopped. David was born with a heart arrhythmia— a condition where the heart’s rhythm can break down without warning, sometimes stopping entirely— and as it worsened in early adulthood, he would experience three more near-death episodes over the following years.
And so in 1981, I had gone into arrhythmia again. And what they typically had to do back then, they would haul me off to the hospital, wire me up, and I had all these kinds of monitors on me. And then that’s when I had my second NDE [near-death experience]. I was completely wired up, and then I went out, and when I did go, this time, I just saw myself in a void. It was just this black void, completely quiet, very peaceful. I couldn’t see any parts of me. I tried. I just could see around, and it was just this black void. And so, for several minutes, I was in there contemplating, “OK, what is all this?” And again, I felt very calm and relaxed. I wasn’t all that concerned. And then, same as before, instantly, I was back in my body. And when I woke up in my body, of course, I was still in the cardiac unit. And by then, all these doctors and nurses had run in, and they were getting ready to try to revive me when I woke back up. The monitors showed David’s heart had stopped, with no pulse, yet it restarted on its own.
The years ahead would bring even more collapses, more returns, and a final turning point that would reshape his entire life. I finally, when I was talking to God, and I said, “I’ve had enough. I can’t handle this anymore.” And I raised my hands up, and I said, “I’m going to leave it in Your hands. I cannot handle this.” Join us tomorrow for Part 2 of 2 of Dr. David Klee’s near-death experiences. (AJ Parr Spiritual Journalist NDE Podcast)
