Have you made any of your own bread lately, my friends? I strongly encourage you to consider bread-baking as a family activity! Here’s a handy tip on how to properly defrost frozen bread and keep it fresh. Bread generally keeps its quality in the freezer for up to two months, though this can vary depending on its moisture content, how fresh it was before freezing, and how often the freezer is opened. Freezer burn is the main problem to avoid and is caused by air entering the storage bag. To prevent this, wrap the bread well and remove as much air as possible before freezing. If you notice big ice crystals inside the wrapping, that means the texture or taste of the bread has been compromised. Additionally, if the bread absorbs freezer odors or begins to crumble after defrosting, its quality is no longer good. To defrost bread, remove it from the freezer and let it thaw at room temperature. Then you can reheat it in an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius) and remove it from the oven when it is warmed through. If you're defrosting slices instead of an entire or partial loaf, then put them into your toaster after they are thawed to room temperature. If you’re short on time, microwave frozen bread for 15–25 seconds, checking every few seconds. Bon Appétit.
