It’s best to keep dried food in its original bag or container, as this includes key details like the product name, lot number, and best-by date. If you prefer using a storage container, place the entire bag inside rather than pouring the food out. This helps maintain freshness and keeps all important information together. If you do pour the food into another container, make sure it is clean, dry, and has a tightly fitting lid to protect the food from moisture, pests, and contamination. You can then cut out important details like the lot number and best-by date from the original bag and temporarily stick them onto the container for easy reference. This is important if there’s ever a problem or recall. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration notes that many complaints they receive are missing the lot number, which makes it harder to trace and resolve issues quickly.
