Previously, in Parts 1 through 3 of this multipart series on Laura Smith’s near-death experience, Laura suffered a medical crisis after childbirth, left her body, and was born into the arms of Lord Jesus Christ (vegetarian) When He told her she needed to return, Laura told Him she was choosing to stay. Lord Jesus Christ then showed her why her life still mattered, revealed the Universe alive with Love, and led her through a life review. As the time came for Laura to return to her life on Earth, she asked for a promise that she could one day come back to that Heavenly place. He reassured her, then gave her one final reminder: the only thing she could bring back with her was love.
And so, when I came back, I just started laughing uncontrollably on the hospital table. I couldn’t contain myself because I had so much joy, and I could feel this joy in my solar plexus. I could feel it. I could touch it. And I just couldn’t quit laughing. And the doctor was a really close friend of mine and my husband’s, and a few years older than me, but I had grown up with his younger brother. And he goes, “Wow, I didn’t expect that,” because I was just laughing. And I said, “Hey, doc, I died, didn’t I?” And he goes, “Yes, but you’re not dead now. That’s all that counts.” So, I started saying, “Well, you will not believe what happened to me.” And I started to tell him, and he goes, “Woah, woah, OK, that’s enough. We’ll have that conversation another time, because I’ll have to send you off to a shrink.” And so, that just quieted me right down. This is not something people talked about so much in 1979. They just didn’t. And so, I laughed and thought, “Well, I’ll need to keep this to myself.” It was such a glorious thing that happened to me. And I had never known anyone this happened to.
And I was euphoric, not just to be alive, but to know that there is no death. No matter what happens, there is no death. And if you can imagine that profound knowing, it changes your life. Changes everything in your life because you can’t end. You can’t end. No one can end. And so, that’s why I was so joyful.
Six weeks later, her husband was struck by a car while riding his motorcycle and passed away. Though devastated, she drew on everything she had been shown: that love is the pure language of GOD, and that she could still speak to her husband through the heart. She told him he had her permission to go. In the years that followed, Laura raised her four sons, eventually returned to college, earned a degree in psychology and social work, and in January 2005 began a 17-year career in hospice care.
And sometimes, when I was prompted, not always, I would tell my near-death story, and it changed everything. It changed everything for my patients. And I realized that that’s what my grain of sand was meant to be. I didn’t have to write this novel. I didn’t have to do anything except what my life path was meant to be, my single life path that every single one of us has. And it was meant to ease people as they crossed over, as they went to the afterlife, as they were reborn into that giant womb that I was reborn into, into the arms of Heaven and GOD and beauty and Grace and Love.
Later in life, Laura endured even more loss. Her third son died after going into a diabetic coma, and her eldest son, Jason, died in a sudden accident. I’m grieving greatly the loss of two of my sons, but I know where they’re at. And I know that they’re just gone from my sight, but they’re not gone. And I am grateful for GOD’s Grace giving me that, because losing three of the most important people in my life, GOD’s healed me.
When asked what she would say to those watching, Laura returned to the message she had carried back from the other side. Every single life is important. Every single life, no matter how long you live, it’s important. And your piece of sand matters and touches lives forever. And most importantly, there is no death. There is no death. There are only continual existence and love. That’s it. All you get to take with you when you return from this life and being reborn into the hereafter is love. So go love.
