“My name is Susana and I killed thousands of chickens before they became my friends. When I lived in Mexico City, I worked in a slaughterhouse. The chickens always showed their fear in their eyes.” Now Susana Chavez is a vegan animal-people activist who considers chicken-people and other animal-people to be her friends. She acknowledges the suffering that slaughterhouse workers endure and hopes for a compassionate world where animal-people will be treated with the love and respect they deserve. There are various resources that Ms. Chavez recommends for more information and inspiration, especially for animal-people raisers wishing to transition away from harming them. “A resource that I would recommend to everyone would be the ‘Rowdy Girl.’ And the other videos I would recommend, ‘Dominion’ is a great one. ‘Milked’ is a great one that shows exactly the condition of the animals, how the whole process is.” Susana shares essential information about the vegan diet and lifestyle with the public at the community level. She works with Direct Action Everywhere (DxE), a Shining World Courage-Compassion Award recipient, and can speak to people about veganism in both English and Spanish. “We plan to work in many things, not only creating actions, but supporting people who want to change their diets, people that want to be an activist. So, if everybody jumps into the pool, we can change things super fast. And hopefully one day we can see the next generation supporting the animals as well as humans.”“My message to the viewers: You're looking at me and you're not vegan. Please just think about it, try to change it. And you're vegan! Thank you so much. I want to say to people that are working in slaughterhouses or factories, you're not alone. If you don't like your job, please reach out to us. We can help you. You don't have to suffer the violence every single day in that job. You can change.”
