Today, we are delighted to introduce to you an outstanding American TV series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. It’s an award-winning animated children’s show which aired on the US TV channel Nickelodeon beginning in February 2005 and lasted three seasons until July 2008. Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, a writer for Forbes magazine called it one of the best shows of all time. It has been released in more than 105 countries, and translated into many languages. The setting of the story occurs in an imagined land where people are divided into four nations based on their affinity with the four natural elements: Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. The central figure is a special 12-year-old boy named Aang, who is a spiritual monk and vegetarian. Born in the Air Nation and being the last survivor of his kind, Aang is the reincarnation of the “Avatar,” the only person who has the ability to control or “bend” all four elements. He is destined to restore peace and balance to the world. Accompanied by his friends and the loyal bison Appa, Aang travelled to many lands with different cultures to fulfill his destiny. Along the way, he studied with many teachers, encounters many trials and tribulations, and grows to understand what it means to be an Avatar. What makes Aang special is that he always tries to seek peaceful solutions to conflicts. Being a vegetarian, he extends love and compassion to all beings, even to the so-called enemies. That is what eventually brings peace to the world. Being an Avatar, he needed to first become master of himself, maintain peace among the four nations and serve as a mediator between the humans and spirits. Combining spiritual teachings with all the cool bending elements and martial arts, Avatar: The Last Airbender is a show you don’t want to miss!
