As time goes by, His prophecies have been fulfilled one after another, so He earned the nickname “Nostradamus of 12th-Century Indonesia.”
If you ask an Indonesian citizen who their most beloved king in history is, you’ll probably hear His Majesty King Jayabaya. This 12th-century monarch, who ruled the Kediri Kingdom in East Java, is remembered for His wisdom and compassion, as well as His prophecies. During His reign, He brought unprecedented peace, prosperity, and cultural growth to Java. In His advanced age, the Sage King stepped away from His throne and retreated to a quiet life of contemplation in the village of Menang. Some believe that in the end, He ascended to Heaven without experiencing physical death, thus affirming their conviction that He was an incarnation of the Hindu God Lord Vishnu. Today, Menang Village remains a sacred pilgrimage destination, and an annual New Year procession is held to honor his legacy.
“Alright, let’s move on to the next information: the commemoration of the 1st of Muharram New Year. A number of residents in Kediri held a traditional Javanese ceremony. This ceremony is held to preserve tradition and to honor the struggles of their ancestor, Sri Adi Jayabaya.”
“This traditional Javanese ceremony was held in Menang Village, Pagu District, Kediri Regency. By putting on traditional attire, the participants took part in a procession from the Menang Village office to the Sri Aji Jayabaya historical site, 500 meters away. The procession is held every year to commemorate the 1st of Muharram New Year. In addition to preserving tradition, the Javanese customary ceremony is held to honor the struggles of their ancestor, King Sri Aji Jayabaya. The educational value of this history continues to be instilled amidst the modern era so that young people and the public do not forget the footprint of Prabu Jayabaya. Historical records show that Sri Aji Jayabaya succeeded in reuniting the kingdoms of Panjalu and Janggala into the single Kingdom of Kadiri. This tradition also serves as a compelling cultural tourism attraction, drawing visitors from various regions every year. The First of Suro ceremony is held to mark the Javanese New Year and, at the same time, to remember and honor the contributions of Prabu Sri Jayabaya, who is renowned for his prophecies, known as Jangka Jayabaya.
As for the event itself, what does the sequence of activities entail? Well, it begins at the square of Menang village, proceeds to the liberation site of Prabu Sri Aji Jayabaya, and then to the Sendang Tirta Kamandanu.
What are the hopes of holding this ritual? It is hoped that through this First of Suro ritual ceremony, we all receive blessings from GOD the Creator.
During the traditional Javanese ceremony, they also hold a communal prayer and a flower-scattering procession at the historical site. This is done as a symbol of gratitude for the Blessings and Safety bestowed by GOD Almighty.”
His Majesty King Jayabaya is famous for His clairvoyance and the resulting collection of prophecies, foretelling the major political and social shifts of the Indonesian archipelago and the whole world. His visions were first preserved through oral traditions and then recorded in texts, such as “Serat Musarar,” “Serat Pranitiwakya,” and “Prelambang Jayabaya.” As time goes by, His prophecies have been fulfilled one after another, so He earned the nickname “Nostradamus of 12th-Century Indonesia.”
He had one particularly popular prophecy: “Many centuries will pass, and white-faced conquerors will come to Java. They’ll occupy the country. They’ll oppress the indigenous peoples. Then the reign of the ‘four white kings’ will come. Their rule will also come to an end. They’ll be replaced by little yellow-faced men from the north. But their power will last as long as the corn lives. And after that, Indonesia will be independent.”
The “four king era” refers to 400 years of Indonesian occupation – the Dutch, French, Portuguese and British took turns controlling Indonesia. In 1941, Japan replaced them as occupiers. The US then replaced Japan in 1945. Jayabaya prophesied that Indonesia would next see prosperity. But he warned that this time would be brief, for the world’s darkest era was coming after.
The respected King mentioned several signs that would signal the darkest era was upon humanity, calling it “the Jaman Edan,” or “the age of madness.”
He foresaw technological inventions that were far ahead of His time, describing “a cart without a horse,” which many believe to be the automobile. “One day there will be a cart without a horse.”
He also described an “iron necklace” that would encircle Java island, which appears to refer to the trains and railroad tracks around Java. “The island of Java will be circled by an iron necklace.”
He saw a “boat flying in the sky,” which sounds very much like today’s airplanes. “There will be a boat flying in the sky.”
He foresaw economic activities taking place in a “market without crowds,” which is made possible through the use of the internet. In fact, online shopping is becoming so popular that many stores and shops are closing their physical locations that used to be crowded with people. “There will be markets without crowds.”
The seer also foresaw natural disasters and extreme weather that would befall Indonesia, which are also happening around the world.
He warned that rivers would lose their currents. “The rivers will lose their current.”
“Across the world, rivers are running dry. What was once a distant warning has now become a major crisis. More than half of all river basins on Earth recorded abnormally low water levels. From the Americas to Asia, from Europe to Africa and Australia, iconic rivers are shrinking before our eyes.
Rivers like the Colorado and the Rio Grande have become symbols of scarcity. Because both rivers now fail to reach the sea. Even the Mississippi, once unstoppable, hit record lows, stranding ships, and stalling exports. In South America, the Amazon suffered its worst drought on record. While the Parana River nearly shut down regional trade. From Brazil to Argentina, rainfall shortages and deforestation are reshaping entire landscapes.
And across Europe, the Rhine, the Po, and the Danube all fell to historic lows in 2022, revealing dry riverbeds and even centuries-old hunger stones. Europe’s rivers, once symbols of abundance, are now warning signs of vulnerability. In Asia, the Ganges, Yangtze, and Mekong tell a similar story: weaker monsoons, melting glaciers, and rising demand. Africa faces the same struggle, but with even higher stakes. The Nile, Niger, and Zambezi are all under pressure, where every drop can mean the difference between peace and conflict.”
Etc...
The long-term impact of water shortages on our world and on future generations has been a subject of deep concern for our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan).
“If the emission of greenhouse gases continues, then they calculate that almost the whole world will be in drought. And then – even then – from 2090 to 2099, even the Arctic, I see here is almost a whole area, will begin to have also some drought. And almost the whole world is red. I wonder if our children’s children’s children will have enough water to drink, not to talk about giving to animal-people. If we don’t stop the greenhouse gas emissions due to animal(-people) products, and if we don’t stop the use of too much clean water for the animal-people industry – then our children’s children’s children will probably die, die from thirst. It’s terrible.”
In addition to natural disasters, His Majesty King Jayabaya also portrayed in His vision the moral decay of human society.
“People disobey GOD’s Law.
… Many people prioritize money. They forget their humanity. They forget their kindness.
… Children eat their fathers. Brothers eat their brothers…
… Humans are eating humans.”
Indeed, the desire for money and material gain has blinded many people and broken up families, with some even taking their fights to court. We see reports of people losing their homes when they can no longer pay their mortgages or other debts, due to sickness, unemployment, or other misfortunes. It’s a system that rewards the strong and punishes the weak. Even though there’s enough food for everyone in the world, the lack of sharing and caring has caused many deaths from starvation.
“Many die of starvation beside food. Many are rich but their lives are miserable.” Just as His Majesty King Jayabaya prophesied, many people, even though they’re rich, suffer from mental illness and various substance addictions. Their lives are still miserable.
Our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) has pointed out the root cause of the disasters and sufferings in this “age of madness” foretold by King Jayabaya.
“Now we have disasters every day. Every day, if you watch any of the channels, TV channels or even internet channels, you will always see some disasters – unprecedented disasters everywhere. People are dying, properties are ruined, farming land or harvests are destroyed. People are getting more and more desperate. More and more people don’t even know what ‘food does satisfy’ means anymore. They eat today, they don’t know if tomorrow they’ll have food. They eat in the morning. They don’t know if in the evening they will get any.
All because we are destroying the substance of survival. The substance of LOVE, which is the base of all life in the universe. That is: Treating all as we’d like to be treated.”
The distressing events foretold by His Majesty King Jayabaya are not only signs of the age of madness, but also of the approach of a new age.
“These are the signs that the Jayabaya era is coming.”
The word “Jaya” means glory and “Baya” means danger. Thus, the Jayabaya era means the Golden Age after the dark age. His Majesty King Jayabaya foresaw that a Divine Being will descend to help Earth transition to the next chapter. He called this Being the Ratu Adil, meaning the Queen of Justice. We’ll continue to explore this topic in the next episode.
“In the chandrasengkala year that ‘A Priest Is Seen Entering the World,’ the receptive Javanese people are seeking and following the RELIGION OF LOVE and Knowledge, gifted by the blessing-giving GOD incarnate, the Savior, the Queen of Justice.”
