Over the last two decades we have all witnessed a phenomenon in the media industry that now jeopardizes the integrity of modern-day journalism: the consolidation of the news media companies around the world and the misuse of power by the big tech internet and social media companies. “There are hundreds of TV stations newspapers and radio shows, but the truth is that almost every avenue from which we get our information in the mainstream media is controlled by only six corporations that have one specific interest: profit.” As a result of a much more consolidated media industry, the importance of a journalist being honest and truthful when reporting on events has never been more crucial. Many people are now finding it difficult to discern what is truthful news from what is misinformation or biased news.

With deep concern about the United States and the world’s future, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai has also given us spiritual insights about the former President, helping us to see through the veil of misinformation so as to better understand and appreciate the true benevolence of His Excellency Mr. Trump. “Heaven told me that he prays for peace.” a 2017 Harvard University study found that over 90% of all reporting by the media was negative towards President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office. Then during his re-election campaign, the media continued with the negative bias against President Trump while underreporting any negative news about the opposing Presidential candidate. In a recent conference with the Supreme Master Television team, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai spoke about the effect of dishonesty in politics and the media during the recent US Presidential elections: “But America will lose trust from the international community. And people will also distrust the media, the mainstream media.”

With all these unprecedented occurrences taking place today one has to ask, what has happened to journalism in the 21st century? Let’s look at the code of ethics that all respectable journalists would need to uphold: 1. Truth and Accuracy 2. Independence 3. Fairness and Impartiality 4. Serve Humanity 5. Accountability “So we must correct the journalistic education system. The media are the public’s eyes and ears. They should stick to reporting truth. Just report the true news like some of their straightforward, excellent colleague journalists.”
